All about the Parthenon

Drawing of the Parthenon

The Persians attacked the city of Athens over 2500 years ago. The Athenians defeated the Persians but the Persians destroyed Athens. Pericles, the Athenian leader, rebuilt the city. He gathered the best architects, sculptors and workers. They worked hard for a long time. Finally, they built a beautiful new city with wonderful buildings. The best building was the Parthenon. The Parthenon was a temple for the goddess Athena, the protector of the city.
