Petralona Man

A human skeleton at Halkidiki's Petralona cave was discovered in 1959. This human skeleton dates back to 700,000 B.C. The man discovered was 1.5 metres tall. Many bone tools were also found inside the cave as well as traces of one of the most ancient fires ever lit by human hands on the entire planet.

They also found chisels, awls, hammers and other tools. Fire was his most important friend, because it provided warmth and kept wild animals away.
A recent theory suggests that we're all descended from one African "Eve" who lived some 200,000 years ago. This theory is based on DNA studies. The discovery of the Petralona man challenges this prevailing theory that the earliest "Homo" species evolved in Africa.
