The first Junior European Song Contest took place in Copenhagen on 10 November 2002 and was an instant international hit. In 2004, the second edition of the Junior European Song Contest took place in Constantinople, Turkey. The purpose of the Contest is to promote young talents in the field of popular music, by encouraging competition among the child artists. All contestants must be aged 8 to 15 years old on the day of their national final. They must have written and composed their song and lyrics themselves, with no professional help. The result is decided by international televoting.
