Sakis Rouvas (1974- )

Sakis Rouvas was born on the Greek island of Corfu in 1974. Music has always been part of his life but he is also a talented gymnast for which he has won distinguished national awards. He also excelled in pole vaulting and became a member of the Hellenic National Gymnastics Team.

Sakis began his music career by singing in Corfu but he made his first professional appearance in Athens in 1991. After coming to Athens, the record company Polygram offered him his first record contract.
A few months later, he took part in the Thessaloniki Song Festival. At the festival the song he sang won first prize. Over the next few years he won many awards, including Best New Singer, Best Song and Best Stage Performance at the Hellenic Music Awards.

In 2004, he represented Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest singing and performing the song “Shake it”. He won third place in the song contest, receiving over 200 points in the tele-voting, the highest Greece has ever received.
