Dimitris Sgouros was born in Athens in 1969. He began his music career at the age of 8 as a child prodigy at the Athens Conservatory. He graduated with 98% - the highest mark ever granted by the Academy. In 1982 at the age of 12, Sgouros made his Carnegie Hall debut with the National Symphony Orchestra of Washington D.C., under the direction of Mstislav Rostropovich, performing Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3. By the time he completed his studies at the Conservatory, he had received many music awards. He then continued his studies at the University of Maryland and the Royal Academy of Music in London.
From the age of 7 Dimitris Sgouros has performed repeatedly in all the major cities and countries across 5 continents. He is now firmly established as one of the leading pianists of the younger generation.
In 2002 the concept of the Olympic Truce, which used to mark the cessation of conflicts between nations during the period of the Games in Ancient Greece, was celebrated in Athens. Dimitris Sgouros was among the select guests to be invited to this momentous event.
