Jennifer Aniston (1969- )
Jennifer Aniston was born in Sherman Oaks, California in 1969. She is the daughter of John and Nancy Aniston. The original family name was Anastassakis which was changed when John Aniston immigrated to the United States from Crete, Greece. She spent a year of her childhood living in Greece with her family. Her family then relocated to New York City where her parents divorced when she was 9. Even though her parents divorced, Jennifer was raised by her mother and her father. Jennifer had her first taste of acting at age 11 when she joined the Rudolf Steiner School's drama club. It was here that she developed her passion for the art. She began her professional training as a drama student at New York's High School of the Performing Arts (Fiorello La Guardia School of Music, Art & Performing Arts, New York City).
After graduating from New York High School of Performing Arts in 1987, she entered the world of entertainment. Jennifer’s beginnings were not television shows or movies, but theatre. She started with roles in off-Broadway productions including "For Dear Life" at the New York Public Theatre as well as "Dancing on Checkers Grave". In 1989 she moved into television with a regular role on the series Molloy. Four years and numerous projects later, she landed the role that introduced her to fame. In 1994 Jen won the role of Rachel Green on the TV show "Friends".
With the success of the series Friends, Jennifer has become famous and sought-after as she turns her fame into movie roles. She has won an Emmy (2002), a Golden Globe Award (1994), and a Hollywood Film Award for best actress of the year (2002). She is married to the actor Brad Pitt.
